Scope 1

For Scope 1 emissions (e.g. diesel, natural gas, refrigerant), what are the sources for emissions factors for North America, Europe, and Asia?

Greenly has developed a consolidated database of emission factors on a wide range of fuels and refrigerant.

It is built upon both national and international data - the former being used in priority when available.

North America

The main data source in North America is the “GHG emission factors hub” released yearly by the EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency).

It contains notably emission data on fuels (stationary combustion / mobile combustion) and refrigerants.

Europe

There exists several databases developed by European public bodies

Other countries

The UK Greenhouse gas reporting: conversion factors are used for countries for which no national data are disclosed. They are indeed the most exhaustive dataset on Scope 1 emissions, and are often used in an international context by private and public organizations.

Scope 2

What are the sources for emission factors for North America, Europe, and Asia?

Scope 2 emissions are mainly linked to electricity consumption.

Following the GHG Protocol methodology, Greenly performs a “dual reporting” of Scope 2 emissions : location-based (average emissions of the grid) and market-based (specific emissions of the power supplier)
